When setting out on a Mountain Marathon you will need to carry everything for a nights camping in your running backpack. So, when all the grams count but you do want a good nights sleep, what do we carry around?
Lisa
Backpack: OMM 20 L
Sleeping bag: Rab Neutrino endurance 200
Sleeping mat: Balloon bed (tip – don’t let them get wet, the balloons are nearly impossible to get into the fabric -but it gives you something to do in the long evening!)
Spare clothes: leggings, long sleeve base layer, socks, synthetic down jacket
Kit check: waterproof trousers, waterproof coat, buff, hat, gloves, head torch
Bodil
Backpack: Ultimate Direction 20 L
Sleeping bag: Rab Neutrino 400
Sleeping mat: Thermarest Neo Air Xlite
Spare clothes: leggings, long sleeve base layer, socks, down jacket
Kit check: waterproof trousers, waterproof coat, buff, hat, gloves, head torch
Communal
Tent: Nordisk Telemark2 tent
Cooking: MSR pocket rocket, fuel, MSR titanium pan, lighter
First aid kit: ibuprofen, plasters, blister plasters, antiseptic wipes, tape (this is very minimal)
Misc: spare food bags (tip – these are so you can keep your feet dry in your shoes in the evening: put clean socks on, bags over the top and back in your shoes – voila!)
Food and Water
Water
Lisa: 1 litre per day in a water bladder supplemented with electrolyte tablets. Lisa is now experimenting with using bottles rather than a bladder as it is easier to see how much water is left and they are easier to refill so you don’t need to carry as much.
Bodil: 2x 500ml per day (+refills at streams when possible/needed) in Ultimate Direction soft bottles.
Both: water purification tablets just in case.
Daytime / running food:
Potato cakes
Avocado sushi rolls
Cereal bars
Sweets+nuts
Protein powder for arrival at overnight camp
Dinner
Smash powdered potato with cuppa soup and cheese – premixed into foil coated bag -just add boiling water
Custard and flapjacks
Breakfast
Porridge sachets
